Dr. med. Hans-Peter Weskott

Internist

In 1980 my medical education started in a radiology department for 18 months. Afterwards I switched the department of Internal Medicine. Since 1985 I was senior physician of Internal Medicine at the General Siloah Hospital in Hannover, Germany, a teaching hospital affiliated to the Medical School Hannover. I started to build up a diagnostic ultrasound unit in 1982 with a growing number of physicians over time including also other departments. Me and later also my senior physicians-including an US technician- trained nearly all physicians of my clinic for about one year – and some who were “falling in love” with this imaging modality- stayed much longer. I started using US contrast agent early in April 1996 (Levovist, since 2001 Sonovue). From 2007, I was Head of the Central Ultrasound Lab until 2014, with more than 20,000 exams being performed annually personally at that time. We additionally examined pts. pts from surgical departments, dermatology and pre- and postoperative exams of breast cancer patients referred by the gynecology departments. Some colleagues from China visited our lab for 6 to 12 months to learn more about the many aspects of CEUS. During my clinical career and afterwards I have contributed more than 300 submissions for national and international congress meetings and published more than 30 papers in national and international journals. I am the author and/or co-author of several books (2015, 2019, 2023). I am as well co-author of the EFSUMB CEUS Guidelines 2004, 2008, 2011, 2018 and of the WFUMB CEUS Guidelines on the liver that has been published in 2012. I was member of the European advisory board for two contrast agents during their approval processes.

I am as well member of the several professional societies:
DEGUM since 1984 (ExB member from 2006 – 2012), German Society of Internal Medicine (BDI), Chinese Society of Vessels and Superficial Organs Ultrasound, Honorable Member of the Hungarian Radiologic Society, Member of the ICUS. Since 1987 I am regularly contributing to the Drei Ländertreffen, presented lectures also at the RSNA, EUROSON congresses and AIUM meetings. Together with Prof. Hahn I was president of the 3-LT in 2019 in Leipzig, Germany. I gave invited lectures at the German Society of Internal Medicine for several years including this year’s congress in May 2025.
I offered ultrasound courses since 1988 until the pandemic “ended”. During the pandemic I gave US courses online. Since 2008 I give International CEUS courses in my hospital, since 2017 the course moved to the University of Munich-Großhadern Campus with Prof. Dr. Dirk André Clevert and me heading this event. I also give and gave lectures on baseline US techniques and CEUS on many national and international CEUS courses and events (in and outside Europe).

From 2014 to 2022 I run a private practice focusing especially on CEUS. I conduct US workshops and help as an ultrasound consultant in several hospitals and private practices. Since 3 years I am delegate of the DEGUM for the EFSUMB. I am looking forward cooperating trustfully with the ExB for the benefit of all actual members and even widen the number of our US societies -including their educational efforts and hopefully help to bring back “lost members”.
